A series of sonic theatre miniatures, inspired by the suffocating interiors and suburban tableaux of Raymond Carver’s iconic 1981 short story collection.
One of the great minimalists of the genre, Carver’s vignettes of domestic American life conceal suppressed passions, silent fears and obsessive fantasies.
Using an extended palette of audio storytelling techniques, from the naturalistic to the surrealist, this four-part collaboration between director Pat Eakin Young and composers Alex Groves and Matt Huxley holds a microphone between the lines of Carver’s concise prose to amplify what’s left unsaid.
